CASE STUDY
Perlo Construction
Challenge
A dominant player in the Northwest construction industry, Perlo Construction hired True Story to guide the owners through leadership changes and succession planning. The trick was in “bottling the magic” the owners brought to the company to ensure the legacy they had built would continue to flourish. To ensure a strong foundation to sustain the change and continue to grow, we dug deeply into the “true story” that reflects the ethos of the company.
Result
The company has grown from $300M in annual revenues to over $400M in addition to expanding into more technical and lucrative verticals such as healthcare and education.
“True Story helped us establish a clear direction for our company. Hiring them is one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.”

Our process in action.
To start our engagement, we did a deep dive with the whole leadership team through a series of intensive workshops. Working in a co-creative fashion, we landed on a brand platform, a mission statement, and a set of core values that the whole group felt inspired by and committed to.
We then brought this new foundation to life. We crafted an internal employee campaign, a comprehensive corporate website, and even an employee handbook, along with photo and video shoots.
To ensure the brand, culture, and strategy stay on track, we’ve engaged at critical junctures. When Covid first hit, we worked closely with the leadership team to find ways to build deeper relations across the company as well as fostering meaningful relationships with community organizations. Additionally, we came on board to help manage the messaging framework for an ownership expansion to ensure the transition was skillfully and thoughtfully managed.
Core Values. Through an intensive process, we helped identify and then craft the “Perlo Practices” that ground the Perlo culture. We then oversaw an internal wall display throughout the corporate headquarters to make the values a part of everyday conversations.
Corporate Website. We created a “workhorse” website with a robust infrastructure to help Perlo deliver a more dynamic message to the community. To support the creative, we oversaw video and photo production, as well as orchestrating a large amount of content.
Photo Shoots. Employees are the superstars at Perlo – whether they’re out in the office or out in the field. We directed several photo shoots to capture the personalities that have made Perlo the “place to work” in the Northwest construction industry.
